The Pan-African film and television training institution, MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), has opened applications for its 2026 intake, inviting aspiring African filmmakers, directors, producers, scriptwriters, and storytellers to apply for its fully funded and industry-accredited training program.
In a statement, MultiChoice said the initiative reflects its long-term commitment to strengthening Africa’s creative economy by equipping young talents with the technical, creative, and business skills required to compete in the global film and television industry.
“As part of the CANAL+ ecosystem, MultiChoice remains deeply committed to delivering compelling African stories to audiences across the continent and beyond. Central to this mission is empowering young Africans with the skills required to thrive in the global film and television industry,” the company said.
The nine-month program combines theoretical learning with intensive hands-on production experience, delivered through a hybrid model that blends online instruction with in-person training. Participants gain practical exposure to real-world production environments while developing their own film projects under the guidance of industry professionals.
MTF operates academies in Nigeria, Kenya, and Zambia, serving participants from 14 African countries. The program provides access to experienced facilitators, professional networks, and industry-standard production tools designed to prepare graduates for careers across the creative value chain.
Since its launch in 2018, the program has trained 296 filmmakers, who have collectively produced over 42 films during the course of the training. These productions have been broadcast on DStv and GOtv channels, including Africa Magic, Maisha Magic, and Zambezi Magic, as well as on the Showmax streaming platform.
MTF alumni continue to play a growing role in Africa’s film and television ecosystem. Many graduates have secured roles within the MultiChoice content pipeline, contributed to major productions, or launched independent ventures. To date, more than 50 production companies have been founded by program alumni.
Graduates have also gained international recognition, earning nominations and awards at platforms such as the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Kalasha Awards, Uganda Film Festival, and Women in Film Awards, while participating in global industry markets including the European Film Market and Durban FilmMart.
MultiChoice said the program’s focus on hyperlocal storytelling and skills development positions graduates not only as creatives but also as entrepreneurs contributing to job creation, cultural representation, and growth within Africa’s creative and MSME ecosystem.
