The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has officially transitioned to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and unveiled its new corporate logo, marking a major milestone in the rollout of Nigeria’s comprehensive tax reform programme set to take effect January 1, 2026.

The rebranding reflects the government’s broader effort to modernise tax administration, improve compliance, and create a more efficient, transparent revenue collection system across the country.

“Today, we move forward as the Nigeria Revenue Service — a more inclusive, modern and accountable institution that will support national development through efficient revenue mobilisation,” said a senior tax official at the unveiling ceremony.

Why the Change Matters

The renaming of FIRS to NRS is an outcome of the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, a cornerstone of the Federal Government’s fiscal reforms introduced to simplify the tax system, promote compliance, and boost revenue inflows while protecting taxpayers.

According to officials, the reformed tax authority will:

  • Enhance transparency and accountability in tax administration.
  • Streamline tax processes for individuals and businesses.
  • Use modern digital tools to improve taxpayer services and compliance monitoring.

The unveiling of the new logo is intended to signal a fresh institutional identity aligned with the goals of the tax reforms, while also communicating a renewed commitment to taxpayers. The new design emphasises clarity, professionalism, and national unity, according to revenue officials.
