Nigeria and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation across agriculture, trade and investment, energy transition, and water management.
The pledge followed a high-level meeting in Abuja between Dunoma Ahmed, Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Robert Zimmerman, Sahel Envoy of the Netherlands, accompanied by the Dutch delegation.
A statement by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesman for the Ministry, said both nations aim to advance shared economic and development priorities. The talks offered a platform to explore ways to strengthen bilateral collaboration while addressing common regional and global challenges.
The meeting also reviewed Nigeria and the Netherlands’ diplomatic ties, dating back to 1960, and discussed scaling cooperation in sectors critical to sustainable economic growth. Beyond trade, discussions covered youth empowerment, migration governance, maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, counter-terrorism, and enhanced multilateral cooperation.
Both sides stressed the importance of coordinated strategies to address insecurity and transnational threats in West Africa, committing to a partnership rooted in mutual respect, equality, and shared values.
Cultural diplomacy, technology exchange, and private-sector collaboration were highlighted as key drivers for inclusive growth and economic diversification. The statement concluded that stronger engagement between businesses, institutions, and civil society would further cement bilateral ties and support long-term development goals.
