The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has confirmed the release of N1.33 billion to the University of Lagos to support eligible students under the federal student loan scheme for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The Fund said the disbursement was made on January 19 in line with its approved schedule for the academic year. The amount is expected to cover tuition-related obligations for 6,308 UNILAG students who met all requirements under the programme.
According to the Fund, beneficiary lists were generated using verified institutional data submitted by the university during the application and validation process. This, it said, was aimed at ensuring that only qualified students benefitted from the scheme.
Following the release of funds to the institution, beneficiaries are expected to proceed with registration and fully participate in academic activities without delay. The Fund noted that it is working closely with tertiary institutions to reconcile beneficiary records, ensure timely application of the funds to students’ accounts, and maintain clear communication to prevent misinformation.
NELFUND reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, students’ welfare, and the prompt disbursement of approved loans. It stated that efforts are ongoing to close administrative gaps and ensure that no eligible student is disadvantaged in the process.
Students were advised to seek clarification from their institutions’ bursary or student affairs offices where necessary, while the Fund continues engagement with UNILAG to conclude reconciliation and resolve any outstanding disbursement-related issues.
