Afreximbank Unveils $120 Million Trade Centre in Abuja to Strengthen Intra-African Commerce

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has announced that the Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) 2024 will take place in Algiers, Algeria, from October 16-19, 2024. The premier event will spotlight Africa’s booming creative and cultural industries, bringing together industry leaders, investors, and creatives from across the continent.

Building on the success of previous editions, CANEX 2024 will offer participants a dynamic platform to display their work, network with key players, and explore business opportunities. The four-day event will feature exhibitions, roundtable discussions, masterclasses, live performances, gastronomy showcases, music, dance, poetry, and other artistic expressions.

Since launching the CANEX initiative in 2020, Afreximbank has committed a $1 billion facility to support Africa’s Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI). The bank has rolled out targeted financing products, such as the Film Financing Development Facility and the Music Development Facility, to fill gaps in key creative sectors. Afreximbank also focuses on improving access to markets, a major hurdle for many African creatives.

“CANEX WKND 2024 will include an exhibition, roundtable discussions, masterclasses, live performances, and ample networking opportunities,” organizers said in a statement. “Industry professionals, individuals, corporate investors, and governance bodies are invited to attend and engage with the continent’s creative talent and explore new business and investment avenues.”

CANEX 2024 is part of Afreximbank’s broader Creative Africa Nexus program, aimed at increasing Africa’s share of global cultural trade. The initiative also supports capacity building, financial product deployment, and regulatory advocacy.

Since 2021, 80 African luxury brands have benefited from Afreximbank’s market access program, CANEX Presents Africa. The bank has also promoted Africa’s creative economies through the biennial CANEX WKND and CANEX at the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF).

Under the theme “One People, United in Culture, Creating for the World,” CANEX WKND 2024 aims to expand business-to-business and business-to-government opportunities. Organizers urge creatives, investors, and industry stakeholders to register online to join the creative revolution in Africa.

“No one should miss this opportunity to be part of Africa’s creative revolution. Join us in Algiers for an unforgettable experience celebrating the continent’s artistic spirit,” the organizers concluded.

Registration for CANEX WKND 2024 is open at [email protected].
