Nigeria’s push for an agricultural revolution gained international visibility at the 2025 NAMPO Harvest Day in South Africa, as AGCOMS International Trading Limited spotlighted the country’s commitment to modernizing its farming systems through mechanisation and global collaboration.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive of AGCOMS, said Nigeria’s low mechanization levels are being tackled head-on by the Tinubu administration’s strong emphasis on increasing tractor usage and implementing key programmes aimed at transforming the sector. These include the deployment of over 30,000 tractors within five years, establishment of mechanization hubs, and nationwide training of tractor operators and mechanics.
AGCOMS, Nigeria’s authorised dealer for John Deere, took part in the continent’s largest agricultural trade fair to highlight the country’s efforts and potential to global investors. The company, which provides tractors, implements, and mechanisation support for both smallholder and commercial farmers, reaffirmed its role as a strategic partner in Nigeria’s food security and agricultural transformation agenda.
The company’s participation was more than symbolic. Led by its Chief Executive and backed by a team of 10 key staff, AGCOMS used the event to explore cutting-edge machinery, engage with original equipment manufacturers, and deepen partnerships essential for Nigeria’s mechanization drive. Also present at NAMPO was a delegation from Niger State, led by the Chief Executive of Niger Foods, reflecting growing sub-national commitment to mechanized farming.
The 2025 edition of NAMPO, organized by Grain SA, hosted a record 87,191 visitors and over 750 exhibitors from around the world. A standout moment was the unveiling of the John Deere 9RX 830 hp tractor, the most powerful tractor ever introduced in Africa. Designed for elite, large-scale farming operations, the model blends horsepower with agility and smart technology—an innovation AGCOMS plans to bring to Nigeria’s evolving agricultural landscape.
The company reiterated its commitment to building a forward-thinking workforce by training young professionals and adopting global best practices. By positioning Nigeria as an emerging hub for modern agriculture, AGCOMS aims to lead the shift from manual to mechanized farming, supporting national food production goals and economic growth.
AGCOMS’ presence at NAMPO not only showcased the country’s prospects but also underscored the strategic collaborations needed to move Nigerian agriculture into a more productive and globally competitive era.
