Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno has transformed a N2 billion interest-free loan initiative for traders into a grant, aiming to support local businesses and boost the economy. This announcement was made during a service at Delightful Christian Church in Uyo, the state capital.
Governor Eno also revealed plans to establish a special delivery unit tasked with monitoring his administration’s projects to ensure they are implemented efficiently. “We are appointing delivery advisors to fast-track our initiatives because there’s much work to be done. We want to ensure our promises are fulfilled,” Eno stated.
To ensure the grant reaches those who need it most, the governor shared that the government will partner with market leaders across the state to identify eligible beneficiaries. “We will work with market leaders to verify that grant nominees are legitimate stall owners,” Eno emphasized.
This initiative comes as part of a broader effort by the Akwa Ibom government to drive economic growth, support MSMEs, and improve livelihoods in the state. Governor Eno’s administration is focused on delivering impactful projects to uplift local businesses and create sustainable opportunities.
By converting the loan scheme to a grant, Akwa Ibom traders can now benefit from direct financial assistance, providing much-needed relief in the face of economic challenges.
This move underscores the state’s commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and ensuring the rapid execution of its development plans.
