In Awka, 20 beneficiaries were all smiles as Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, presented them with a ten-million-naira agro support grant from the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme, spearheaded by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the first lady of Nigeria.
Mrs. Soludo handed over the cash at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, following its release by Senator Tinubu in Owerri, Imo State, where she presented the cheques to the wives of the five South East Governors, who would personally distribute the grants to the recipients.
The program, aimed at supporting female farmers across the South Eastern states, provided a total of one hundred women with five hundred thousand naira grants each at its maiden flag-off ceremony held at the Imo State Government House.
Addressing the beneficiaries selected from Anambra’s three senatorial zones, Mrs. Soludo urged them to invest the funds wisely, emphasizing the need to utilize the grants to improve their agro-businesses and contribute to the economic growth of the state.
Encouraging organic agriculture, Mrs. Soludo cautioned against contributing to the proliferation of synthetic and unhealthy food products in the market, stressing the importance of sustainable farming practices.
She assured the beneficiaries of careful monitoring to track the progress of their businesses and ensure optimal utilization of the grants. Additionally, Mrs. Soludo announced plans to train and empower another set of eighty female farmers in the poultry business, supported by the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme and the National Agricultural Land Development Agency.
