At the 2022 African Business Leadership Awards, United Capital Plc’s Group CEO, Peter Ashade, won the African CEO of the Year Award.
The award was presented on Monday during the 7th Africa Summit in London, United Kingdom, in the House of Lords.
The African Business Leadership Awards honor organizations and business executives from all over the African continent, recognizing great business practices and top performers in the continent’s private sector.
The awarding body adopted a three-step points-based selection process with 13 award categories and over 370,000 entries, which included a call for nominations, a call for voting of the shortlisted nominees, and the editorial board’s final review of the nominations, voting submissions, and other supporting evidence.
Peter Ashade, who has over 30 years of experience in the Nigerian financial sector, won the title of “African CEO of the Year,” beating out James Githii Mburu, CEO of the Kenya Revenue Authority, and the other nominees, including the heads of Finance Trust Bank in Uganda and Banque Centrale Populaire in Morocco.
Ashade dedicated the award to his coworkers at United Capital Plc in his acceptance speech at the occasion, expressing his sincere thanks.
He said, “While the name inscribed on this plaque is mine, the true winners of this award are the board, executive management, and staff of United Capital Plc who are fully committed to our mission of providing best-in-class financial services to our customers and shareholders while gradually changing the narrative of African financial service offerings.
“This is a testament of our grit, hard work, and perseverance. I would also like to specially acknowledge the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Tony O. Elumelu (CON), whose contribution to the development of the African continent is worthy of emulation,” he said.
