The Christ Apostolic Church Grammar School, Efon-Alaye Alumni Association has launched a N50 million endowment fund aimed at supporting knowledge-driven initiatives to assist current students of their alma mater. The launch event took place recently in Lagos, where the association also honored distinguished former students.
Among the award recipients were prominent alumni such as the Governor of Ekiti, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji; Justice Johnson Apuabi; Dr. Adekunle Ojo, SAN; Prof. Adio Afolayan; Prof. Dipo Kolawole; Pharm. John Oni; Prince Aderogba Agbaje; Engr. Suyi Dada; Mr. Lucas Olu Daramola, SAN; Pharm. Olayemi Ajayi; and Comptroller Kola Bamisaye.
Adekunle Ojo, SAN, the President-General of the association, stated that the endowment fund is intended to provide training and support for students, helping them become better individuals in society. He emphasized that the fund is focused on knowledge-based initiatives rather than structural interventions, which are covered by a separate fund.
“This endowment fund will be used to care for less privileged students. We believe this initiative will significantly benefit the students. We will also cover the West African Senior School Certificate Examination fees for indigent students,” Ojo said.
He also highlighted the importance of recognizing and appreciating the contributions of the awardees to society, noting that around 20 individuals were inducted into the CAPOSTO Hall of Fame during the event.
The alumni association plans to build an Alumni House where the names of these distinguished individuals will be permanently displayed.
Gbenga Oluwaniyi, another alumnus, spoke on the theme “Reconnecting CAPOSTO to the National Education Grid,” urging other associations and groups to support the government in revamping the education sector. He emphasized that the decline in educational standards requires a collective effort beyond just federal government support.
“The state of education has deteriorated from what it used to be, and we need to take proactive measures to improve it. Alumni associations like ours have a crucial role to play in this process,” Oluwaniyi added.
