The Allan Gray Makers StartUp Academy is now accepting applications for its 2026 Incubation Programme, an 8-month journey designed to equip young artisans with practical entrepreneurship skills and business support. The programme targets aspiring entrepreneurs in bricklaying, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing trades who are ready to start or grow their own businesses.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old, unemployed or self-employed, and not studying full-time. Eligible candidates should have one of the following:
- A trade test qualification in bricklaying, carpentry, electrical, or plumbing
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience and readiness to take a trade test
- An N2 Certificate and 3 years of work experience in one of the mentioned trades
What You’ll Gain
Selected participants will receive hands-on entrepreneurship training and mentorship, along with a R3000 monthly transport allowance to support their participation throughout the programme.

- Proof of work experience or service letters
- Certified copy of ID
- National Senior Certificate (advantageous)
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates will first complete an online questionnaire to assess their entrepreneurial readiness. This will be followed by an interview to evaluate motivation, problem-solving skills, interpersonal ability, and entrepreneurial mindset.
