Call For Applications: FG & Amazon Web Services Free Digital Skills Programme for Nigerian Educators and Students
Share

The Federal Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Honourable Minister Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has officially launched a transformative digital skills development initiative in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy.

This national programme is designed to equip Nigerian educators and students with in-demand 21st-century skills in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other emerging technologies.

This strategic initiative is a core component of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s education landscape and aligning it with global digital trends.

According to Dr. Alausa, the programme is both “timely and transformative,” offering a pathway for Nigerian students and lecturers to compete and thrive in the fast-evolving digital economy.

Key Features of the Initiative:

Access to AWS Academy Curriculum: Educators and students will gain access to world-class training resources provided by AWS, including hands-on labs, cloud infrastructure, and certification pathways.

  • Pilot Phase Success: Coordinators from 43 Federal Universities and Polytechnics have already been successfully onboarded.
  • Nationwide Expansion: The programme is now being extended to all federal, state, and private tertiary institutions—including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across Nigeria.
  • Institutional Participation: Heads of institutions are urged to nominate dedicated coordinators to oversee the enrollment of lecturers and facilitate student registration.
  • 100% Free Certification: In a major boost for accessibility, the Ministry will cover 50% of the certification cost, while AWS will sponsor the remaining 50%, making the certification completely free for all participants.

Why This Matters:

This initiative represents a bold leap toward bridging the digital divide in Nigeria’s education system. By democratizing access to high-demand digital skills and cloud certifications, it ensures that no educator or student is left behind in the global shift toward a knowledge-driven economy.

Application Deadline: Friday, 19th July 2025 at 5:00 PM
