Call For Applications: FG Oxford-TVET IDEAS Solar Training Program for Nigerians

The Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with Oxford-TVET, has opened applications for the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Solar Training Programme, a flagship Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative of the Federal Government.

The programme is designed to equip unemployed Nigerian youths with job-ready skills in solar and inverter installation, responding to the country’s growing demand for renewable energy professionals.

About the IDEAS TVET Solar Training Program

The IDEAS project focuses on transforming participants from trainees into skilled professionals or business owners in the renewable energy sector. The solar training track covers everything from basic electrical principles to advanced solar system design, installation, and fault diagnosis.

This is a six-month intensive, full-time programme aimed at creating direct employment and entrepreneurship pathways in Nigeria’s clean energy space.

Program Overview

  • Duration: 6 months (intensive training)
  • Specialisation: Solar and Inverter Installation & Maintenance
  • Mode: Full-time, hands-on skill acquisition
  • Location: Nationwide (multiple states across Nigeria)

The program is positioned as a social intervention for unemployed youths, helping participants gain market-relevant technical and business skills.

What Participants Will Gain

Selected candidates will benefit from a combination of technical and entrepreneurial training, including:

  • Hands-on mastery of modern solar and inverter technologies
  • Practical skills in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Entrepreneurial guidance on starting and managing a solar installation business
  • Recognised certification upon successful completion
  • Access to mentorship, industry networks, and potential job opportunities

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a Nigerian citizen
  • Be currently unemployed
  • Be available for the full six-month intensive training
  • Have interest in renewable energy, technical work, and vocational learning
  • Fall within the youth category as defined by Federal Ministry guidelines

No prior experience in solar installation is required.
