Call For Applications: GHC Africa Leadership Accelerator: Fully-funded Program

The Africa Leadership Accelerator brings GHC’s acclaimed global health leadership curriculum to emerging public health leaders working in organizations across Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia. This nine-month program includes virtual leadership academy workshops, in-person retreats, executive coaching, professional mentorship, and more, all while participants continue to work at their current organizations.

Benefits

As a fellow, you will:

  • Strengthen Your Leadership Identity: Develop a clearer sense of your leadership strengths and weaknesses, understand how others perceive you, articulate your personal values, explore your role in advancing health equity, and craft your leadership vision.
  • Extend and Leverage Your Networks: Adopt practices to strategically extend your network and gain critical insights to advance your leadership. Integrate into GHC’s global community of over 1,200 alumni and advisors.
  • Understand How Change Happens: Use frameworks and tools to analyze the systems you work in, understand how change occurs, and develop strategies for leveraging systems change.
  • Apply Lessons in Real Time: Apply learnings from Leadership Academy workshops directly to your current projects and challenges.
  • Access Additional Resources: Benefit from GHC’s webinars, additional trainings, networking opportunities, and resources from the Community Impact Team.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Early- to mid-career professionals
  • Citizen of Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, or Zambia
  • Currently employed full-time in a non-clinical public health role for at least six months
  • Employed by a public health organization in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, or Zambia with expressed support for your participation
  • No specific education or training requirements

Program Components

The Africa Leadership Accelerator combines virtual and in-person learning opportunities. The program is free to fellows, covering all virtual programming, travel, lodging, and meals for in-person retreats. Fellows should expect to dedicate 6-8 hours per month to the program. Once a fellow, always a fellow—after the program, you join GHC’s lifelong global network of 1,200+ alumni.

Program Timeline:

  • Duration: September to May
  • Mandatory Participation:
      • Leadership Academy Workshops (~3 hours/month)
      • Individual stretch & coalition projects
      • Global and country-based in-person retreats
      • Executive Leadership Coaching sessions
      • Quarterly supervisor check-ins
      • Learning circles with fellow cohort members
      • Final project presentations
      • Alumni mentorship
      • GHC staff support and check-ins

Application Process & Timeline

The application process assesses your willingness and ability to engage fully in the fellowship and your leadership fit for the GHC community. You must be nominated to access the application.

Nomination Process:

  • Nominees can be recommended by:
    • Organizational representatives (HR, Executive Director, Program Manager)
    • Manager or supervisor
    • Colleague or peer
    • GHC alumni or fellow
  • After nomination, you will receive an email with a link to the application portal and further instructions.

Application Requirements:

  • CV
  • Program references
  • Demographic information
  • Short responses to prompts
  • A letter of recommendation from your supervisor
