Call for Applications: NCC Annual ICT Innovation Competition for Startups, Tech Hubs and Investors (Winners receive N4.5m in cash prizes)

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has opened applications for its annual ICT Innovation Competition.

The NCC invites startups, tech hubs, investors and the entire ICT ecosystem to participate in its competition themed “Utilizing Indigenous Digital Solutions to Bridge the Digital Divide” in a bid to promote innovation for the sustainability and continued development of the Nigerian Communications Industry.

Another goal of the ICT competition is to motivate and encourage Nigerian youths to engage in innovative developments for the telecoms industry, while improving the nation’s ability to compete in the global economy.

The NCC Annual ICT Innovation Competition also has an objective to enhance collaborations and partnerships by bringing together tech hubs and techpreneurs with solutions in line with the theme.

Benefits for the Winners 

Fifteen tech hubs and startups will be shortlisted to showcase their technologies to a panel of judges at the Digital Bridge Institute, Oshodi, Lagos Campus.

> Winners stand a chance to win cash prizes of N2 million, N1.5 million and N1 million respectively. Other participants not among the first three winners will also receive consolation prizes.

> Accommodation will be provided to all participants.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the NCC Annual ICT Innovation Competition, proposals must meet the following criteria:

> The project should be relevant to the ICT/Telecommunication industry

> Interested parties should be duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria (CAC)

> Proof of concept should be available – feasibility of idea with diagram, algorithm, etc

> Novelty of project

> Pitch idea should demonstrate clear commercial sustainability and profitability framework

> Team diversity and indigenous capacity to develop and support the solution

Application Requirements & Procedure

There are no costs entering the competition and all applicants will retain full control and ownership of their technologies.

Each team will register and submit the following documents:

  • 4-Page Executive Summary of the project concept
  • 5-7 minutes video of the pilot project
  • Names, contact details, passport photographs and profiles of all team members
  • Website

These should be submitted in a zip folder to https://ncc.gov.ng/ictinnovation2023. Subject mail should read “Submission from <business name>” and the zipped file named after the business.

Applications close on Sunday, January 15, 2023.
