A GEF internship offers individuals an opportunity to learn about the GEF and contribute to its mission for the global environment. Interns will be assigned to a team and staff mentor for the duration of their internship period.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for an internship candidates must have an undergraduate degree and be enrolled or planning to enroll in a graduate study program in a field relevant to the GEF’s work. There is no age limit.

Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other languages is desirable. Other skills such as computing skills are advantageous.

We value diversity in our workplace, and encourage all qualified individuals to apply.

Applicants should demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to work on global environmental issues in a multi-cultural context and strong interpersonal, communication, research, and writing skills.

Funding

A stipend of $3,000 per calendar month or possibility of external funding arrangements. Interns must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel, and medical insurance.

Duration

Three to six months, full-time or part-time depending on work needs/assignment. Internships are expected to be in-person at the GEF offices in Washington, DC, consistent with applicable return-to-work rules at the GEF and World Bank. The possibility of remote working arrangements will be considered in line with these rules, on a case-by-case basis.

Application

Submit a statement of interest and a CV to the corresponding opportunity below.

Additional information

J1 visa holders need to obtain a G4 visa abroad prior to starting an internship at the GEF. Staff rules of the World Bank apply.
