The UN Environment Programme has announced the Second Call for Projects under the Global Framework on Chemicals Fund, inviting project proposals that strengthen chemical and waste management systems in developing nations. This phase focuses on national and regional initiatives capable of reducing pollution, improving chemical safety and protecting public health within high-impact sectors such as agriculture, textiles, construction and electronics.
The fund supports interventions designed to minimize hazardous exposure, address waste challenges, phase out unsafe industrial practices and enhance regulatory frameworks. With chemical pollution increasingly linked to declining ecosystem health, cancer risks, soil degradation and water contamination, the programme aims to scale long-term solutions through policy reform, innovation, and capacity building across governments and civil society.
Eligibility
National governments and accredited governmental institutions may apply, including regional bodies and civil society organizations endorsed by their national focal point. Applicants must demonstrate strong technical capacity, strategic relevance to national priorities, multisector collaboration and a sustainability plan beyond the funding period.
Eligible Countries
Developing countries, economies in transition and Small Island Developing States are included in this call. Civil society applicants from these countries may submit proposals with official government endorsement.
Funding Details
Selected projects will receive grants ranging from USD 300000 to USD 800000 for a maximum implementation duration of three years. Applicants are required to provide at least 25 percent co-financing, which may be provided in cash or in-kind. Funded initiatives are expected to show measurable impact in institutional strengthening, policy improvement, and long-term chemical safety outcomes.
