Call For Applications: Wiki Loves Earth 2024 in Nigeria (up to N300,000 in prizes)

Wiki Loves Earth is an international photography competition to promote natural heritage sites around the World through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons).

This is the fifth time Nigeria will be participating in the contest and it would be held during 1 June — 31 July 2024. In the first edition and second edition, over 1000 quality images were uploaded by participants in Nigeria. Everyone is welcome to get involved, whether as a participant (photographer), organizational volunteer, or both.

Prizes

  • 1st Prize – NG 150,000
  • 2nd Prize – NG 100,000
  • 3rd Prize – NG 50,000

Other Categories

  • Prizes will be awarded to the best 2 images from each participating fan clubs and hub.
  • Prizes will be awarded to the highest number of contributions from each of the participated fan clubs and hubs.
  • Top 10 contributors (by the number of photographs) will be rewarded with a WLE T-shirt.

Eligibility

  • All entries must be your own work; do not manipulate original images and make sure that there is no visible watermarks.
  • All photos must be uploaded between June 1 to July 31, 2024, to be eligible.
  • All photos must be licensed under CC BY-SA license.
  • Participants must have an active email account, if the organizers wish to contact.
  • Captions and descriptions are required.
  • Do not forget to add categories to your picture as it will be helpful to everyone looking for your picture.
  • Make sure that you are not uploading duplicate images.

Judging Criteria

The jury will determine the winners of the local and international contests taking into consideration the following criteria (in no particular order):

  • Technical quality (sharpness, use of light, perspective, etc.);
  • Originality;
  • Usefulness of the image for Wikipedia.

Application Process

  •  Sign in or create a new account on Wikimedia Commons
  •  Name your photos well
  •  Use their Upload Button at the top OR Click here to upload images
  •  Share your upload success on social media with the hashtags: #WLENG #WLE2024.
  •  And wait patiently for the results! All the best!
