The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has once again cautioned Nigerians to beware of fraudsters peddling fake offers of contracts, grants, loans, and other financial benefits falsely linked to the apex bank.
In a statement issued on Monday, the CBN expressed concern that despite previous advisories, scammers continue to deceive unsuspecting individuals with bogus claims. The bank firmly stated that it has not authorised any person, group, or organisation to disburse funds or offer contracts on its behalf.
Signed by the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, the statement noted that these fraudulent schemes persist despite a public warning issued on November 18, 2024. It stressed that the CBN does not operate through intermediaries, nor does it communicate financial offers through unsolicited channels like emails, SMS, phone calls, WhatsApp, or social media.
According to the bank, any message or contact claiming to represent the CBN in offering financial opportunities is likely part of a scam. It also made clear that it does not request payments or fees for accessing contracts or grants.
The CBN urged members of the public to avoid engaging with anyone making such claims and instead report such encounters to law enforcement or visit the nearest CBN office. The bank reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the public and working with security agencies to clamp down on fraudulent operations misusing its name.
This latest warning underscores the CBN’s efforts to protect its credibility and prevent citizens from falling victim to financial scams disguised as empowerment initiatives.
