Chowdeck Expands to Ghana with Rider Training, Rewards, and Cashless Delivery Push

Nigerian on-demand delivery startup, Chowdeck, has officially launched in Ghana, marking its first move beyond Nigeria as part of a broader pan-African expansion strategy. The company, which entered Nigeria’s food delivery market in 2021, has rapidly grown to over 1.5 million users and more than 20,000 riders across 11 cities.

As it kicks off operations in Accra, Chowdeck is introducing a comprehensive rider training program focused on app usage, customer service, delivery standards, and professionalism. The initiative is aimed at equipping riders with the skills required to deliver high-quality service in Ghana’s growing digital commerce space.

Riders will also participate in “Rider Games,” a performance-based incentive program offering bonuses, ratings-based rewards, and access to loans of up to GHS1,000, depending on their activity levels.

Chowdeck’s customer-focused initiatives include a referral program that rewards new users with ₵10 on their first and second orders once they invite friends. In addition, customers can unlock their “Chowscore” after placing their first order each month. This score-based reward system offers benefits such as free delivery and exclusive discounts depending on user activity.

The company is launching in major areas across Accra, including Osu, Cantonments, Labone, Airport, Dzorwulu, East Legon, Madina, Adenta, Oyarifa, and Abokobi.

The expansion comes as Ghana sees significant growth in mobile and digital payments. According to recent data, 87 percent of Ghanaians use mobile phones to access food delivery services, and digital payment transactions are projected to hit $2.35 billion by 2025; underscoring a shift toward cashless commerce.

Chowdeck’s CEO stated that the move into Ghana is about more than just growth; it represents a step towards building infrastructure for convenience and commerce across Africa. To lead the new operation, Chowdeck appointed Henry Whyte as its Country Manager in April 2025. Whyte previously served as a Senior Operations Manager at Bolt Ghana and brings industry experience to the company’s regional expansion.
