Chowdeck Secures $2.5 Million in Seed Funding for Expansion Across Nigeria
Share

Chowdeck, Nigeria’s leading on-demand delivery service, has raised $2.5 million in seed funding to enhance its operations and facilitate expansion into more cities nationwide.

The funding round saw participation from prominent investors such as YCombinator, Goodwater Capital, FounderX Ventures, Hoaq Fund, Levare Ventures, True Culture Funds, and Haleakala Ventures. Notable angel investors include Simon Borrero and Juan Pablo Ortega (co-founders of Rappi), Shola Akinlade and Ezra Olubi (co-founders of Paystack), Sudeep Ramani (Sportybet), Ayo Arikawe (Thrive Agric), and Karthik Ramakrishnan (Amazon).

Since its launch in October 2021 post the COVID-19 lockdown in Lagos, Chowdeck has amassed over 500,000 users and enlisted more than 3,000 riders across eight Nigerian cities. The funding will bolster its market leadership in these cities and pave the way for expansion into additional locations.

Driven by factors such as increased smartphone penetration, improved payment systems, and evolving consumer preferences, the demand for on-demand delivery services in Nigeria has surged. Chowdeck, with its swift delivery service averaging 30 minutes, stands out as the fastest in Africa, offering consumers convenient access to food from their favorite restaurants.

Chowdeck’s efficient logistics operation enables food vendors to seamlessly deliver meals to customers, while its platform provides an easy ordering experience for consumers. The startup has forged partnerships with renowned quick-service restaurants like Chicken Republic, Burger King, and Bukka Hut to enhance customer satisfaction.

Femi Aluko, CEO and co-founder of Chowdeck expressed the company’s commitment to providing exceptional experiences for customers, vendors, and riders. Shola Akinlade, CEO and co-founder of Paystack commended Chowdeck’s innovation and pledged continued support for its growth journey.

June Angelides, Partner at Levare Ventures, lauded Chowdeck’s impressive execution and highlighted its potential to address complex delivery challenges in Africa. With landmark partnerships and customer loyalty, Chowdeck aims to revolutionize food delivery across Nigeria.
