Colexa Biosensor Limited, under Codix Pharma Limited, has inaugurated Sub-Saharan Africa’s inaugural In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) Factory in Lagos. This landmark event includes the unveiling of the OnPoint Blood Glucose Meter & Strips, addressing diabetes prevalence across Africa.
The facility, endorsed by the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), champions critical healthcare solutions. The newly introduced product aims to aid millions battling diabetes, emphasizing early detection and management for improved recovery and wellness.
With a capacity to produce 3.6 million packs annually, expandable to 10.8 million, Colexa Biosensor positions itself to meet local and regional demands, initially focusing on West Africa. This initiative aims to curtail reliance on foreign exchange for raw materials, bolstering local production and exports.
Mr. Sammy Ogunjimi, the company’s Executive Chairman, outlined their commitment to Africa’s healthcare, aiming to scale operations across the continent and globally. Notably, the factory secured ISO 13485:2016 (IVD) and ISO 9001: 2015 (process) certifications, ensuring consistent quality.
Expressing government support, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, reiterated commitment to endorsing local healthcare manufacturers. Prince Julius Adewale Adelusi-Adeluyi, the former Minister of Health and event chairman, urged conducive environments for such enterprises to flourish.
Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC’s Director General, highlighted NAFDAC’s Maturity level 3 achievement, enhancing accessibility and acceptance of quality Nigerian products across Africa. The commissioning of Colexa’s IVD Factory marks a milestone in Africa’s healthcare landscape, symbolizing a stride towards self-sufficiency and improved healthcare access.
