The Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, Peter Undiandeye, has rolled out a major farmer support scheme with the distribution of 1,000 bags of fertilizer, agrochemicals, seedlings, and financial assistance to farmers to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food security within the council.
Announcing the initiative on Tuesday while marking one year in office, Undiandeye said the intervention is part of his administration’s commitment to supporting farmers with essential inputs that enhance yield, reduce production costs, and improve income for local producers.
He noted that his administration has also recorded progress in infrastructure, education, empowerment, healthcare, and peacebuilding across all 10 wards in Obudu. Key infrastructure projects listed include the installation and reticulation of solar-powered boreholes with tank stands across Begiading, Urban II, Utugwang North, Utugwang South, and Angiaba/Begiaka wards to improve access to potable water.
“The council has completed the renovation of the executive chambers, council secretariat and lodge, while constructing a bridge in Ukpe Ward to connect several communities and a box culvert in Angiaba/Begiaka Ward linking Natty Ugbe–Ibong Village and surrounding settlements,” he said.
Undiandeye also highlighted the grading and compacting of several major streets and access roads across Bekpam, Ranch Road area, Bedia axis, Sacred Heart Primary School Road and other locations, which he said are aimed at improving mobility, market access and community development.
He appreciated Governor Bassey Otu and Obudu residents for their support, describing his first year as a period of “steady progress and impactful service,” despite the economic challenges facing local governments nationwide.
The chairman reaffirmed that his administration would continue to prioritise people-centred governance with special attention on agriculture, rural infrastructure, empowerment, and social welfare.
