The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, announced the commencement of seized food items distribution starting Friday, emphasizing that they are not for resale.
Addressing journalists in Lagos, Adeniyi warned against profiteering and banned customs officers from participating, disclosing that rice would be sold at N10,000 per 25kg bag.
The National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, previously stated the NCS’s plan to directly distribute seized food items.
Eligible recipients must provide a Nigerian Identification Number, targeting groups like artisans, teachers, nurses, and religious bodies within operational areas.
Adeniyi reiterated the initiative’s non-resale policy, urging Nigerians to report any misuse and assuring transparency and accountability.
Highlighting the temporary nature of the exercise, Adeniyi emphasized the NCS’s commitment to safeguarding food security by preventing items from being unlawfully diverted abroad.
