Dangote Foundation Launches N16 Billion Food Aid for One Million Nigerians
Share

The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has inaugurated its 2025 Annual National Food Intervention Project, a N16 billion initiative targeting one million vulnerable Nigerians across the country.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Kano, ADF Chairman Aliko Dangote, represented by his daughter Marya, said the intervention is a response to Nigeria’s economic challenges. The foundation will distribute one million 10kg bags of rice across the 774 local government areas in collaboration with state governments to ensure the food reaches those most in need.

Marya Dangote emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in tackling hunger and improving Nigerians’ living conditions. She urged industrialists to support food security efforts and called for strengthened initiatives in health, education, and economic empowerment at the community level.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, represented by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam-Gwarzo, commended the intervention, highlighting its significance in easing hardship, particularly during Ramadan. The state government has formed a committee, including security agencies, to ensure transparent distribution.

ADF Managing Director Zouera Youssoufou reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting government efforts in addressing hunger and poverty.

The initiative adds to other recent food security interventions in Nigeria. In February 2025, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) allocated $2.5 billion to its 2023-2027 Nigeria Country Strategy Plan, a five-year effort to eradicate hunger and improve nutrition in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.
