Dangote Petroleum Refinery has commenced nationwide sales of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, at a new pump price of ₦739 per litre across all MRS Oil Nigeria Plc filling stations in Nigeria. This move marks a significant intervention in the downstream petroleum market, aimed at stabilizing fuel prices and providing relief to consumers, households, and businesses during the festive season.
In a statement released on Sunday, the refinery said the pricing initiative is expected to take effect at more than 2,000 MRS stations nationwide, ensuring that the benefits of lower pump prices reach consumers across the country.
“We commend MRS and other marketers who have demonstrated patriotism by reflecting the reduced price at the pump. We call on others to join this effort as a show of support for Nigeria’s economic recovery,” the refinery said.
Traditionally, Nigeria’s festive periods are associated with fuel scarcity and steep price hikes, which put additional pressure on households and enterprises, especially transport operators, manufacturers, and MSMEs that depend heavily on affordable fuel for operations. However, Dangote Refinery’s strategic pricing initiative, backed by a guaranteed daily supply of 50 million litres, seeks to alter that dynamic.
By refining and supplying fuel locally at scale, the refinery noted that it is reducing Nigeria’s dependence on volatile global markets, conserving foreign exchange, supporting the stability of the naira, and strengthening energy security.
The refinery also issued a warning against attempts by unscrupulous operators to create artificial scarcity in response to the price cut, urging regulatory agencies to take decisive action.
Consumers are encouraged to report any MRS station selling petrol above the approved ₦739 per litre price by calling 0800 123 5264, the refinery added.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery reaffirmed its commitment to steady supply, price moderation, and long-term national interest, saying its objective remains to ensure consistent access to high-quality petroleum products at affordable prices for Nigerians while reducing the country’s reliance on fuel imports.
