Sunny Ekedenyen, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Chairman of the State CARES Steering Committee, also announced a name change for the initiative, noting that the Federal Government renamed the programme from “Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus” (NGCARES) to “Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus.” However, the acronym remains the same.
Ekedenyen emphasized that the Delta CARES program was designed to mitigate the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on strengthening the livelihoods of the poor and vulnerable, ensuring food security, and aiding small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
He further revealed that the program has benefitted 110,844 individuals through grants, livelihood support, and improved rural infrastructure since its inception. “Sadly, we have lost 75 members of this group between the third phase and now, when our team went to update our records for this 4th phase,” Ekedenyen said.
The D-CARES program continues to play a vital role in promoting economic recovery and sustainable development in Delta State.
