The Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, Aare Taoheed Adebayo Taiwo (TAT), has launched the Mega Empowerment Initiative, a large-scale grassroots intervention designed to boost micro businesses, support vulnerable groups, and expand economic participation across the six political wards in the council.
Under the initiative, 100 small business owners received N200,000 each, while 10 young entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 30 were awarded N500,000 each through the Ejigbo Youth Startup Fund to support new enterprise creation. The program also includes mentorship, investor linkages, and long-term enterprise development support.
In total, over 400 residents benefited from business tools, capacity building, and trade equipment, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 510.
Items shared include deep freezers, pepper grinding machines, vulcanizing machines, hair dryers, ovens, sewing machines, POS terminals with starter funds, barbing clippers with generators, popcorn machines, cobbler machines, Nikon cameras, as well as shawarma and grilling equipment.
Taiwo said the empowerment scheme aligns with the council’s S.H.I.E.L.D Agenda — a policy framework targeted at building a self-reliant, productive and economically empowered citizenry.
He emphasised that beneficiaries were selected based on need, enterprise readiness and capacity to grow sustainable income.
All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, applauded the initiative, describing it as a practical demonstration of responsive local leadership that channels resources toward real community impact.
He urged beneficiaries to use the tools responsibly, stressing that empowerment programmes only yield value when converted into long-term business gains.
