An Abuja-based non-governmental organisation, FAME Foundation, has partnered with English Premier League champions Manchester City Football Club and global appliance brand Midea to launch a youth-focused community initiative in Lagos, Nigeria.
The initiative, implemented under the “Play It, Dream It” programme, aims to harness the power of football to educate, inspire, and empower young people. Through community football activities, the project will provide children with life skills, mentorship, and safe spaces to learn, play, and grow.
With this partnership, Nigeria joins four other African countries Kenya, Angola, South Africa, and Morocco where Manchester City and Midea are supporting grassroots empowerment projects.
Speaking on the initiative, Tom Pitchon, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at City Football Group, said: “Through this partnership, we are using football and Midea products to uplift the lives of young people around the world. The projects will promote health, life skills, leadership opportunities, and new friendships, while providing safe community hubs.”
Bright Yao, Regional Sales Director at Midea Africa, added: “At Midea, we believe in making technology purposeful and accessible. By bringing our products to grassroots communities and supporting this programme, we are creating inspiring spaces where young people can thrive.”
The partnership marks the first time Manchester City and Midea are collaborating with a Nigerian NGO, and FAME Foundation says it underscores its mission to build healthier, happier, and more connected communities through sport, education, and advocacy.
