The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is set to implement policies that promote sustainable youth entrepreneurship and innovation in the FCT, aligning with the federal government’s renewed hope agenda. This commitment was reiterated by the Mandate Secretary of the FCTA Youth Development Secretariat, Comrade Abdullahi Ango, during the commemoration of International Youth Day (IYD) 2024.
With the theme “From Clicks to Progress, Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” this year’s celebration highlights the significant role digital technology plays in empowering youth and achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). Ango emphasized the alignment of the theme with the secretariat’s mission to empower, educate, and engage the youth in ways that promote sustainable development and social justice.
Ango expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and FCT Minister Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for his appointment as the pioneer mandate secretary. He underscored the importance of harnessing the potential of youth for national growth, especially in the digital age, where they are the largest demographic of technology users and innovators.
He also highlighted the United Nations’ recognition of the role of digital technologies in advancing the SDGs, noting that digital tools are crucial for evidence-based decision-making and have a profound impact on economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
Ango further mentioned that as the 2030 deadline for the SDGs approaches, the involvement of young people in digital innovation is critical for addressing global challenges. He reaffirmed the FCTA’s commitment to mitigating youth restiveness through initiatives like the creation of the Youth Development Secretariat, which aims to address the aspirations of FCT youth.
The secretariat will continue to focus on empowering the youth in the many ways
“One such effort is the creation of a Youth Development Secretariat to address the aspirations of FCT youth, and fortunately for us, as the chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) FCT Chapter was appointed as the pioneer mandate secretary, FCT Youth Development Secretariat,” he said.
