The Federal Ministry of Education has unveiled its scholarship awards for tertiary students across Nigeria, as announced by Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, on Wednesday night, April 2, 2024.
Tagged as the “2023/2024 FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS (NIGERIAN SCHOLARSHIP AND EDUCATION BURSARY AWARD),” the initiative invites interested and qualified Nigerians to participate in the Nigerian Scholarship Award (NSA) and Education Bursary Award (EBA) tenable in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions.
Eligibility criteria for the Nigerian Scholarship Award include full-time enrollment in any tertiary institution in the country. Applicants for postgraduate studies should hold a minimum of a first degree with Second Class Honours in the Upper Division, while all other applicants (UG, HND & NCE) must be registered full-time students in their second year or above. Additionally, undergraduate scholarship applicants, including persons with disabilities, must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Points Aggregate (CGPA) as specified.
Qualified candidates are directed to visit the Federal Ministry of Education’s website and complete the application form online within the stipulated timeline. The ministry emphasized that double applications would be disqualified and required applicants to attach specific documents, including a letter of admission, CGPA result, National Identity Number, and State of Origin Certificate.
The scholarship covers various fields, including Science and Technology, Medicine and Medical Sciences, Education, Agriculture, Liberal Arts/Social/Management Sciences, Entrepreneurial Studies, Information and Communication Technology, Environmental Sciences, and Law.
Furthermore, the Education Bursary Award criteria were outlined, targeting registered students studying Education in Nigerian Colleges of Education and Universities. The award is tenable in Nigeria and applicable to full-time students in their second year or above, with specific eligibility requirements and conditions.
The ministry emphasized that applications are free of charge and provided contact details for inquiries.
The Federal Ministry of Education’s initiative aligns with the federal government’s commitment to enhancing access to higher education, as evidenced by recent legislative efforts aimed at reforming the Higher Education Student Loan Scheme.
