The Federal Government has opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, providing Nigerian postgraduate students with opportunities to study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia. The announcement was made via X (formerly Twitter) by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.

The scheme targets MSc and PhD candidates in fields relevant to the oil and gas industry, offering benefits including tuition fees, return flight tickets, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable. For PhD applicants in the UK, the scholarships follow a split-site arrangement, allowing research to take place between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), and partner universities such as Robert Gordon University, University of Strathclyde, and University of Portsmouth.

The PTDF emphasised that the scholarships are highly competitive. Applicants will be assessed based on academic credentials, research proposals, professional memberships, and the relevance of their studies to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. MSc applicants must have a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree (or 2.1), have completed the NYSC programme, be computer literate, and possess at least five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics. PhD candidates are also required to submit a research proposal of up to five pages outlining objectives, methodology, and data collection approaches.

All applicants must verify their National Identity Number (NIN) before applying. Multiple applications or submission of falsified documents will lead to automatic disqualification, the PTDF added. Interested candidates can apply online at scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng for approved programmes at PTDF partner institutions. The application deadline is 27th February 2026.

This scholarship initiative aims to provide world-class training, research exposure, and global expertise while building indigenous capacity to advance Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
