Nigeria’s push toward green industrialisation is gaining momentum as Saglev Electromobility Company Limited prepares to host high-level visits from the Federal Government and the African Development Bank (AfDB) this week at its electric vehicle (EV) facility in Imota, Lagos.
The homegrown EV manufacturer announced that the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, will visit the plant on July 30, followed by AfDB President, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, on July 31. Both visits aim to assess Saglev’s progress in advancing sustainable industrial development, clean transportation, and climate-resilient infrastructure in Nigeria and across Africa.
Saglev, which brands itself as Nigeria’s pioneer indigenous assembler and manufacturer of electric vehicles, said the visits reflect growing national and continental support for local innovation in clean energy. The company described the upcoming events as a “validation” of its role in shaping Nigeria’s industrial future and contributing to Africa’s wider e-mobility transformation.
“We welcome the Minister and Dr. Adesina as they witness firsthand the progress being made,” said Dr. Sam Faleye, Saglev’s Chief Executive Officer. “These visits by national and continental leaders validate our commitment to Nigeria’s industrial future and Africa’s clean transportation revolution.”
Saglev currently produces 16 EV models, including ride-hailing vehicles, executive sedans, mid-sized delivery vans, BRT buses, and utility trucks. Beyond vehicle production, the company is playing a strategic role in boosting local manufacturing, technology transfer, job creation, and import substitution—critical components of a resilient green economy.
The company highlighted its commitment to expanding local capacity and deepening Nigeria’s role in the energy transition. It also emphasised the importance of combining innovation, policy backing, and regional development financing to address complex challenges such as climate change, youth unemployment, and logistics inefficiencies.
Saglev said the upcoming visits underscore the confidence of both government and development partners in the potential of Nigerian firms to lead Africa’s clean energy shift. The company affirmed its continued dedication to strengthening indigenous capabilities across the entire electric vehicle value chain.
