The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced payment of the ₦22,500 monthly stipend to participants in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program, providing direct financial support to trainees as they undergo skills development.
Officials confirmed that the stipend rollout, which began on December 2, 2025, targets trainees who have completed registration, physical verification, and maintain good attendance at their accredited TVET centres. Confirmed beneficiaries nationwide have already received credit alerts of ₦22,500 in their bank accounts.
The monthly payment is part of the Federal Ministry of Education’s effort to support trainees with transportation and basic upkeep, enabling them to focus on acquiring practical skills in sectors such as ICT, construction, agribusiness, electrical work, plumbing, and automotive services.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Education, over 42,000 trainees and more than 600 independent TVET centres have received stipends and operational funds in the first tranche of disbursements. The funds to training centres help ensure quality instruction and continuity of hands-on learning across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The rapid start of stipend payments follows earlier concerns from some lawmakers that delays in disbursements had begun to affect trainee attendance and program participation. Lawmakers had warned that when stipends are delayed, commitment from trainees declines, especially for those travelling long distances to their training centres.
The TVET initiative is part of a broader national strategy to address youth unemployment, skills gaps, and workforce readiness under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. By linking financial support with skills acquisition, the program aims to equip young Nigerians with practical, income-generating abilities and improved employability.
Eligible trainees who have not yet received payments are encouraged to check their TVET portal dashboards, as stipends are being disbursed in phases. Those whose status still reads “Pending” will receive payments once their registration, documentation, and verification are completed.
The ongoing stipend payments are expected to continue in regular cycles, providing consistent support throughout the training period and helping young people gain the skills needed to launch careers and build small businesses across diverse sectors.
