Smallholder farmers in Borno State are set to benefit from improved access to mechanisation as Vice President Kashim Shettima, on Sunday, commissioned 375 refurbished tractors and 351 new farm implements in Maiduguri.
The equipment, revived by NASENI under its National Assets Recovery and Redeployment Project, will be deployed through the Borno State Agricultural Mechanisation Authority (BOSAMA) to support rural farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.
Vice President Shettima praised Governor Babagana Zulum for driving sustainable agricultural reforms and commended NASENI’s role in local technology solutions. “To solve Nigerian problems, we must localise global technologies,” he noted.
Governor Zulum stated that the refurbished tractors were part of the 1,000 originally procured during Shettima’s tenure as governor, along with hundreds of other farm tools—highlighting a long-term vision for boosting productivity among local agribusinesses.
This intervention is expected to reduce manual labour, cut costs for smallholder farmers, and strengthen Borno’s agribusiness ecosystem.
