The Federal Government has introduced the BisonFly Project, a centralized digital booking system aimed at reducing air travel expenses across its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The initiative, unveiled in Abuja by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, is part of broader efforts to promote fiscal discipline and improve transparency in government spending.
The BisonFly platform, developed by the Ministry’s Efficiency Unit, will leverage digital tools to streamline flight bookings, ensure efficient travel coordination, and secure bulk discounts with airlines. It will also provide a centralized system that curbs inefficiencies and uses the government’s collective bargaining power to negotiate lower fares.
According to the Minister, the project reflects the government’s commitment to cutting costs and aligning with global best practices. Drawing comparisons to cost-saving models used by institutions such as the World Bank, he emphasized that the BisonFly initiative would serve as a model for prudent financial management across the public sector.
Set to go live in the coming months, the system is expected to bring measurable savings and efficiency to official government travel. It will be managed by a dedicated implementation team, working in collaboration with ICT advisers and relevant stakeholders to ensure timely deployment and full realization of the project’s objectives.
The Permanent Secretary for Special Duties at the Ministry of Finance praised the project as a forward-thinking approach to public sector reform, positioning it as a benchmark for responsible and transparent governance.
