The Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO) has unveiled 250 indigenous technologies aimed at empowering small businesses across Nigeria. The announcement was made by the Institute’s Director-General/CEO, Dr. Jummai Adamu, during a two-day Industrial Linkage Technology Extension program held in Akure, Ondo State, specifically for the Southwest geopolitical zone.
The primary objective of the program is to introduce participants to FIIRO’s commercial-ready technologies, which are designed to promote industrialization in both rural and urban areas. Speaking at the event, Dr. Adamu reiterated FIIRO’s commitment to supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by providing innovative solutions that can be readily adopted by businesses across the country. She stressed that the Institute is dedicated to facilitating industrial growth in all six geopolitical zones by offering these technologies to MSMEs.
The event attracted 50 participants, including aspiring and established entrepreneurs, and featured key organizations like the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), the National Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI), and the Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria (ASBON).
A highlight of the workshop was the practical demonstration of Fish Smoking Technology, a simple yet profitable venture with low startup costs, abundant resources, and strong market demand. The demonstration aimed to equip participants with the technical know-how to begin small-scale fish-smoking businesses.
At the closing ceremony, Dr. Adamu congratulated the participants on acquiring new skills and encouraged them to remain connected with FIIRO for ongoing support through the Institute’s Akure office. She urged them to apply the knowledge gained to establish profitable businesses that contribute to Nigeria’s industrial development.
This initiative is part of FIIRO’s broader strategy to foster innovation-driven industrialization and help MSMEs thrive in the competitive market.
