A Nigerian clean-mobility firm, EF Motors Limited a subsidiary of EF Network Limited has announced plans to create 5,000 direct jobs and over 20,000 indirect employment opportunities through its new electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant in Imo State.
The company, working in partnership with Chinese technical firm Zhejiang Pukao New Energy Vehicle Co., Ltd., is expected to begin assembling hybrid electric cars by the first quarter of 2026. The 30-hectare plant will roll out more than 40,000 affordable vehicles annually in its first phase, with production projected to hit 100,000 units per year by 2028.
Speaking at the Lagos International Trade Fair in Tafawa Balewa Square, the firm’s Chairman, Gideon Egbuchulam, said the initiative is designed to offer Nigerians low-cost, energy-efficient vehicles while expanding job opportunities and easing transportation burdens.
“Our Orca and Panda models are designed for Nigerian families and taxi operators. They combine electric and fuel-powered engines, offering a total range of up to 385 kilometres. This technology allows users to save between ₦10,000 and ₦20,000 daily in fuel costs,” he said.
Director of Business Development, Chidi Success, noted that federal incentives for local EV manufacturing—including tax waivers—would be passed on directly to consumers, making the vehicles more affordable.
As part of its long-term rollout, the firm plans to establish public charging stations nationwide, powered by both solar and grid electricity. It will also provide after-sales support, spare parts, and countrywide repair services.
Sales Manager at BCBL, Shela Lin, reaffirmed the commitment of the company’s technical partners, stating that BCBL would supply the technology and expertise required for assembly, maintenance, and the training of Nigerian engineers. She added that the collaboration aims to ensure full technology transfer and support Nigeria’s broader goal of building a sustainable automotive industry.
With EV adoption slowly gaining traction across Africa, the firm’s Imo-based project is expected to play a vital role in expanding clean-transportation access while empowering thousands of Nigerians through fresh economic opportunities.
