The Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N500 million to assist victims of the recent Maiduguri flood. This donation, made through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), aims to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the disaster.
During a visit to the Government House in Maiduguri on Wednesday, the First Lady, represented by the Wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Nana Kashim Shettima, expressed her sympathy to the people of Borno State. “We are here to support you in complementing your efforts towards assisting the flood victims,” Mrs. Shettima said.
She presented a dummy cheque of N500 million on behalf of Mrs. Tinubu, stating, “I extend the First Lady’s sympathy and prayers to the victims of the flood and the people of Borno State. She would have loved to be here, but due to pressing commitments, she delegated me, her daughter of the soil, to represent her.”
Mrs. Tinubu also conveyed her prayers for Governor Babagana Zulum, saying, “Your Excellency, the mother of the nation is keeping you in her prayers, and we will rally behind you to support the good work you’re doing for Borno State. We pray to Allah for strength and wisdom as you face these challenges.”
In response, Governor Zulum appreciated the First Lady’s contribution and the Federal Government’s continued support for Borno. “Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative, has been a constant pillar of support, particularly in empowering women and children,” Zulum noted.
He also extended his gratitude to the wives of prominent leaders who accompanied Mrs. Shettima, including the wives of the Vice President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Governors of Lagos and Yobe states.
Adding to the support, Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Umar Dikko Rada, donated N100 million to aid the flood victims. During his visit to Governor Zulum, Governor Rada expressed his sympathy, saying, “We are here to stand in solidarity with you and the people of Borno over the recent flooding that claimed lives and destroyed properties worth millions.”
Governor Rada added, “As Muslims, we believe this is from God, and we pray such incidents do not happen again. May God grant eternal rest to those who lost their lives and restore the fortunes of those who lost their properties.”
Governor Zulum thanked Governor Rada for his support and assured that all funds will be used transparently to benefit the flood victims.
Governor Rada was accompanied by key officials from Katsina State, including the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly and the Emir of Daura.
