Share

The largest fintech company in Africa, Flutterwave, has announced the hiring of former Goldman Sachs managing director Gurbhej Dhillon as its new chief technological officer (CTO).

Dhillon will oversee internal infrastructure advancements at the company in his capacity as CTO. His efforts will be focused on enhancing Flutterwave’s cutting-edge tech platform, which already supports integrations with major players in the industry including Visa and Mastercard as well as other clients like Uber and Booking.com.

Dhillon will use his expertise in engineering leadership to assist engineers and product developers in developing the finest solutions that support the commercial growth of other Flutterwave customers, in addition to enhancing the platform’s overall architecture and infrastructure.

Dhillon is moving to Flutterwave from Marcus by Goldman Sachs, where he held a dual position as CTO and head of financing. As a result, he is well-versed in enterprise application architecture for the financial services industry.

Commenting on his appointment, he said, “I am delighted to be joining the Flutterwave team at such an exciting time for the company. As a leading financial technology company in Africa, Flutterwave is well-positioned to capitalise on the global trends in payment digitisation and continue to drive Africa’s digital transformation, creating further opportunities for customers and merchants alike. It is a very crowded market, with lots of new entrants, so it is vital that we as a company continually look to innovate our products and services, improve our existing architecture and create endless possibilities for everyone.

Dhillon launched systems at Marcus that dramatically increased business growth while enhancing customer experience and forging strategic alliances with multiple Fortune 500 firms.

Speaking on the appointment, the CEO of Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola, maintained that Dhillon’s contribution to the team is needed as the company continues to expand. “I look forward to working closely with Gurbhej as we continue to expand rapidly,” Agboola said. “With the needs of our customers constantly evolving, we remain focused on driving further innovation across the business and continuing to develop our cutting-edge technology platform that simplifies payments and connects the African market with the world. Gurbhej’s experience and deep expertise in developing financial technology platforms will be instrumental in Flutterwave’s further growth.”

Dhillon implemented procedures at Marcus that significantly enhanced revenue growth, improved customer service, and created strategic partnerships with other Fortune 500 companies.
