The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in collaboration with the African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services, hosted a stakeholder meeting in Lagos to develop a sustainable public-private partnership model for digital agricultural extension services in Nigeria.
The initiative aims to empower smallholder farmers, who contribute 90% of Nigeria’s food production but face challenges such as limited access to advisory services, fragmented private sector solutions, and underfunded public extension systems.
The proposed digital platform, known as PPP DAES, seeks to bridge these gaps by delivering agronomic, market, and financial information at scale. Designed for long-term sustainability, the solution prioritizes private sector leadership while aligning with Nigeria’s agricultural goals of self-sufficiency and import substitution.
By leveraging innovative, user-focused approaches, the initiative promises to enhance food security and transform smallholder farming in Nigeria.
