Glo Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of telecoms operator Globacom, has distributed food packs and household essentials to women in Delta State as part of its “Giving Back Together” empowerment initiative.
The outreach, held at Urhobo College in Warri, brought together women from communities including Warri North, Warri South, Aladja, Ughelli South, Udu and Uvwie. Beneficiaries included widows, elderly women, and disadvantaged groups, who described the initiative as timely support amid the current economic hardship.
Each pack contained staple items such as rice, garri, semolina, spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, sardines, seasoning cubes and noodles.
Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Globacom, Jumobi Mofe-Damijo, said the food drive has been held in several states, targeting the most affected groups in society.
“The Food Drive is not just for anyone. It is targeted at the most vulnerable segment of Nigerian society, that is, women and children. When we help them, we are helping the society at large,” she said.
Beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the gesture. Princess Omo-Udoyo from Ughelli North said, “I have not seen this before. I thank God and the Glo Foundation for this gift.” Mrs. Esther Okoro, a native of Otu Jeremi in Ughelli South, prayed for the company’s continued growth, saying, “God will lift the company and people who have done this. They will never lack anything.”
Globacom stated that the initiative will be extended to more cities in the coming months to support additional communities across Nigeria.
