Glovo, a leading multi-category app, has teamed up with Visa, a world leader in digital payments, to launch a digital skills training program aimed at empowering small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs).
The program, part of Glovo’s Glovo Local initiative, aims to help SMEs thrive in an increasingly digital world. It will offer visual-oriented training materials covering topics such as digital payments, marketing campaigns, social media, and money management.
Available across nine countries in southwest Europe and Africa, including Spain, Portugal, Nigeria, and Kenya, the program will reach over 40,000 SMEs. It targets aspiring local business owners as well as growth-minded owners of small and medium-sized businesses.
The initiative comes at a crucial time for SMEs worldwide, addressing challenges such as complex regulations, inadequate digital infrastructure, and a scarcity of digital talent. Glovo and Visa conducted a pilot program last year in Morocco, which informed the selection of online training courses now offered in collaboration with Visa.
Sébastien Pellion, Head of Impact and Sustainability at Glovo, emphasized the importance of supporting SMEs in their digitalization journey and accelerating small and independent businesses, particularly in regions like Africa.
Carl Manlan, Vice President and Head of Social Impact, CEMEA, Visa, highlighted the significance of SMEs in driving economic growth and inclusion. He underscored Visa’s commitment to providing innovative solutions and resources to empower SMEs and help them flourish.
Through this partnership, Glovo and Visa aim to equip SMEs with the skills and knowledge needed to overcome the challenges of digitization and leverage the opportunities of e-commerce and digital payments, ultimately fueling local economies and fostering community-driven initiatives.
