In a bid to improve livelihoods and promote sustainable development, the Gombe State Government has launched a comprehensive training and empowerment programme for households across the state under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) initiative.
The project, which spans key sectors such as environment, agriculture, and water resources, aims to build the capacity of residents through technical training and seed capital for income-generating activities. Beneficiaries are being supported to establish ventures in areas like horticulture using greenhouse technology, fish farming, and poultry production.
This initiative reflects the government’s broader commitment to strengthening resilience against climate change, boosting food security, and reducing poverty in the region. The ACReSAL programme is equipping participants not just with skills, but also with the tools to become economically self-sufficient and climate-smart.
In addition to tackling challenges like land degradation and climate vulnerability, the state is positioning itself as a model for environmental sustainability and agricultural innovation in Nigeria.
By integrating livelihood support with climate action, the programme offers a path toward a more secure and prosperous future for communities across Gombe State.
