Google Partners with GOMYCODE to Train 1,000 Nigerian Developers in Generative AI
Share

Google has launched a new programme, “Build with AI,” in collaboration with GOMYCODE, to equip 1,000 Nigerian developers with advanced Generative Artificial Intelligence skills. The initiative is aimed at accelerating the country’s role in the global AI economy and fostering a new wave of technology-driven solutions.

The Head of Developer Ecosystem for Google in Sub-Saharan Africa described the programme as a major step in building a generation of tech innovators capable of creating locally relevant and globally competitive products. He noted that the training comes at a crucial time when industries across Nigeria and Africa are increasingly turning to technology to tackle pressing challenges and boost economic growth.

The programme will provide participants with access to AI tools such as Google’s Gemini, alongside a curriculum developed with input from Google experts. The goal is to close the gap between raw talent and the specialised skills required to thrive in the AI era. It will focus on applications in key sectors like fintech, healthtech, and agritech, positioning Nigerian developers as leaders in Africa’s digital transformation.

According to Google, the initiative is more than just a skills-building exercise — it is about empowering Nigeria’s developer community to shape the future. The 11-week training will be delivered through GOMYCODE’s hacker spaces, combining in-person classes with mentored lab sessions to ensure practical, hands-on learning that can be immediately applied to real-world projects.

GOMYCODE’s Country Director said the partnership would provide the infrastructure and expertise needed to nurture tech talent, bringing a world-class curriculum and tools directly to the developer community. He expressed optimism that the programme would produce innovative solutions designed by Nigerians for both local and global markets.

Applications are now open to developers across Nigeria, with the programme set to conclude in a demo day where top participants will present their AI-powered solutions to Google and other industry leaders. Interested applicants can register via bit.ly/BwAIDevTraining.
