Google and the World Bank Group have entered a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating digital transformation across emerging markets through the deployment of Open Network Stacks, digital infrastructure designed to expand access to essential public services.
The alliance will integrate Google Cloud’s advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, including its Gemini models, with the World Bank Group’s global development expertise. This collaboration is expected to help governments build interoperable, AI-powered networks for key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and skills development. Citizens will be able to access these services in more than 40 languages, even on low-end or basic devices.
The initiative builds on a successful pilot programme conducted in Uttar Pradesh, India, where digital tools helped thousands of smallholder farmers increase profitability and market access. The positive outcome of that project laid the groundwork for scaling similar interventions in other developing regions.
To ensure long-term sustainability and inclusiveness, Google.org is supporting the creation of a new nonprofit, Networks for Humanity (NFH). The organisation will focus on developing universal digital infrastructure, establishing regional innovation labs, and piloting social impact projects in partnership with local institutions around the world.
The partnership marks a significant step toward fostering open, accessible, and AI-driven digital ecosystems that can empower citizens, enhance government efficiency, and drive inclusive growth across developing economies.
