House of Beebah School of Fashion (HOBSOF) has successfully concluded the first phase of training for 250 participants in the Industrial Training Funds (ITF) Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) program, equipping them with the skills to thrive in Nigeria’s fashion industry.
As one of the key training centers for the nationwide initiative, HOBSOF played a significant role in providing practical, hands-on fashion design training to aspiring designers. The SUPA program, launched by President Bola Tinubu, aims to tackle unemployment by training 5 million artisans annually, with HOBSOF selected tolead the fashion component of this initiative.
The training covered essential areas like garment construction, pattern drafting, sewing techniques, and fashion business management, giving participants the expertise needed to excel in both local and international fashion markets. The program provided not only technical skills but also real-world, industry-ready training to ensure participants are equipped to create quality garments and either enter the workforce or launch their own fashion businesses.
Ms. Habibat Adeoye Adebanjo, Director of House of Beebah School of Fashion, praised the trainees for their commitment, noting, “The SUPA program has given these 250 individuals the tools they need to succeed in the fashion industry. We’ve seen incredible growth in their abilities, and many have already started working on their own fashion lines. This initiative is changing lives, and we’re honored to be part of it.”
As part of their final assessment, each participant presented an outfit they had designed and made during the course, showcasing their new skills. Projects included kaftans, skirts, shirts, and other creative pieces, judged based on creativity, technical execution, and attention to detail. Each trainee received personalized feedback for further development.
The success of the program was reflected in the positive testimonials from participants. Esther, one of the trainees, shared, “Before this program, I had no idea how to properly draft patterns or sew garments professionally. Now, I feel confident in my skills and am ready to start my own business.” Another participant, Faith, commented, “The SUPA program has been a life-changing experience. I’ve gained valuable skills that I can use to support myself and contribute to the fashion industry in Nigeria and internationally.”
With the first phase now complete, HOBSOF is preparing for the second phase, which will welcome a new group of trainees eager to grow in the fashion industry. The school remains dedicated to supporting young artisans, helping them unlock their potential and contributing to Nigeria’s broader economic development.
House of Beebah School of Fashion continues to provide a platform for aspiring designers to build the skills and confidence necessary to succeed in the competitive fashion industry. With continued support from ITF, the school is committed to shaping the future of Nigeria’s fashion talent.
