Huawei Technologies has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation by backing key initiatives such as the 3 Million Technical Talents (3MTT) program and the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP). The company’s DigiTruck initiative, a mobile ICT classroom, will play a crucial role in this effort.
This commitment was emphasized during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Huawei’s Beijing Research Centre, where discussions focused on advancing digital literacy and talent development in Nigeria.
During the meeting, Mr. Liang Hua, Chairman of Huawei’s Board of Directors, praised President Tinubu for recognizing the importance of digital technology as a catalyst for economic growth. He said, “This is very encouraging for us. Huawei is fully prepared to offer its ICT expertise and become a reliable partner of the Nigerian government to support the country in achieving its policy objectives and furthering its digital, intelligent, and low-carbon development.”
DigiTruck Initiative
The DigiTruck initiative by Huawei is a mobile ICT classroom designed to enhance digital literacy in underserved communities. It was equipped with computers, internet connectivity, and educational resources tailored to various learning needs. Operating in 10 Nigerian states annually, DigiTruck aims to train at least 3,000 students each year, helping to equip Nigeria’s young population with essential digital skills for future economic opportunities.
Support for NATEP
Huawei’s support extends to Nigeria’s National Talent Export Programme (NATEP). Mr. Chris Lu, CEO of Huawei Nigeria, highlighted plans to further develop the Network Operations Center (NOC) to expand its capacity, enabling Nigerian technology talents to serve more overseas markets. This aligns with NATEP’s goal of boosting Nigeria’s role in the global tech industry. Advancing E-Government and Sustainable Development
During President Tinubu’s visit to Huawei’s Research Centre, he and his delegation were introduced to the company’s latest innovations, including e-government, smart education, smart grid, and solar power technologies. These advancements have the potential to significantly enhance Nigeria’s public services, digital governance, and inclusive development agenda.
Additionally, Huawei announced plans to collaborate with Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to establish a joint Photovoltaic (PV) test lab. This initiative aims to advance Nigeria’s digital and low-carbon development goals.
