International Breweries Empowers 1,000 Retailers Through 2024 Retailer Development Program
Share

International Breweries Plc (IBPLC) has continued its commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and economic growth through its 2024 Retailer Development Programme (RDP). This initiative aims to equip local retailers with critical business skills, promote financial inclusion, and drive sustainable growth across Nigeria.

Key Highlights of the Program

  1. Wide Reach and Expanded Training

The program trained about 800 retailers in five major Nigerian markets: Port Harcourt, Onitsha, Ilesha, Lagos, and Sagamu, with a total of 1,000 retailers expected to benefit by the end of the year.

Building on its success in 2023, which supported 150 retailers, the 2024 edition has significantly expanded its reach across Nigeria and six other African countries.

  1. Hybrid Training Model

Participants could choose between in-person and virtual training, making the program more accessible and inclusive.

This flexibility ensured more retailers, regardless of their location or schedule, could benefit.

  1. Focus on Inclusion, Education, and Growth

The program centered on three pillars

Inclusion, Education, and Growth offers tailored training in:

Financial management

Stock-taking

Business growth strategies

Responsible beer retailing

  1. Comprehensive Curriculum

Workshops on financial literacy, digital skills, and leadership were included to prepare retailers for evolving market demands.

Carlos Coutino, Managing Director of IBPLC, emphasized the importance of small businesses in driving local economies:

“Small businesses are the backbone of communities, creating employment, providing services, and driving innovation. Our program empowers them with skills, mentorship, and resources to thrive.”

Temitope Oguntokun, Director of Corporate Affairs & Regulatory, highlighted the company’s dedication to supporting its value chain:

“Strengthening our retailers supports their communities and fosters sustainable business growth. The name GRIT reflects our determination to achieve shared value with stakeholders.”

Nicholas Kade, National Sales Director, commended the resilience of retailers amid economic challenges:

“When our retailers grow, our business grows. This training equips them to thrive, contributing to socio-economic development.”

Participant Testimonials

Samuel Onyeulor, General Manager of Retta Park Hotel, praised the program for offering new perspectives:

“I’ve learned, unlearned, and relearned. The program provided networking opportunities and best business practices.”

Pretty Joseph, another participant, shared how the training enhanced his stockkeeping and service delivery, enabling him to maintain profitability.

The Retailer Development Program has cemented IBPLC’s role as a key player in empowering small businesses and fostering economic growth. By providing practical tools and mentorship, the initiative is not only uplifting retailers but also contributing to Nigeria’s broader economic development.
