The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the rescheduling of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,997 candidates whose initial sittings were marred by technical and administrative issues.
This development follows an official statement by JAMB Registrar, who on Wednesday acknowledged the widespread errors that disrupted the examination process, particularly in Lagos and across the South East. He disclosed that a total of 206,610 candidates from 65 centres in Lagos were affected, while 173,387 candidates from 92 centres in the Owerri zone—covering five South East states—were also impacted.
“The affected candidates will start getting text messages for reschedule starting from tomorrow,” the Registrar announced, adding, “I apologise, I take full responsibility.”
By Thursday morning, JAMB had begun sending out new examination details to affected candidates via SMS. One such candidate, who received a revised slip, has been rescheduled to write the exam on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 12 noon in a designated centre located in the Igando community of Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State.
JAMB’s swift action is seen as part of its effort to restore order and fairness to the 2025 UTME process after widespread complaints about failed biometrics, system crashes, and scheduling issues disrupted the initial examination dates.
Further details are expected as the rescheduling continues across the country.
